Is Yoga good for those with high blood pressure?

I want to do some exercise that will help to lower my blood pressure. Can Yoga help with this?

There are many benefits of yoga including improved sleeping patterns; increased energy levels; improved concentration; improved immune system; normalised weight; decrease in pulse rate and decrease in blood pressure. Studies have shown that the practice of yoga can help to control hypertension by relaxing the body and calming the mind. Many doctors recommend yoga as a treatment for high blood pressure. Yoga actually promotes health and well being and can help you to achieve a sense of relaxation and calm. The breathing exercises in yoga can help to reduce stress and can increase relaxation which can all help to control hypertension. However, there are some yoga postures which should not be practiced by those with high blood pressure such as the headstand, shoulder stand and downward dog. There are other poses too which should be practiced with care such as the Mountain, Half Moon, Warrior I and Standing Squat. These poses should not be held for longer than a few breaths.
